Last week I posted some information on sensitive skin, this week I want to go over some of the main ingredients in the Rodan + Fields Soothe line so you can get an understanding of why it works. We know that some natural products do work, but sometimes they need a little boost to help them work better. Each of our regimens come in a 4 step process; with each step numbered right on the bottles making is really easy to know what order to use the products. The doctor’s feel that using the right ingredients in the right order will give people the best results. Let’s start with Step 1.
Gentle Cream Wash – Step 1:
This is how we are going to build your lipid barrier so that your skin can tolerate other products. The very first ingredient listed is water and we know how natural water is. Glycerin attracts water from the environment and from the lower layers of skin. This increases the amount of water in the surface layers of your skin. Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice is a hydrating agent with cooling and calming qualities from the aloe vera plant. Another ingredient used is Caffiene because it is an anti-irritant that has skin soothing qualities. Vitamin E is a naturally occurring lipid-soluble vitamin that is an antioxidant. Ceramide are naturally occurring fats that are major structural components of the skin’s outer structure and help increase the skin’s water retention capacity.
Sensitive Skin Treatment – Step 2:
This is a great treatment on it’s own. You can incorporate this into any regimen or keep it in your first aid kit. The Sensitive Skin Treatment is used to help diminish any redness, but is also perfect for wind burns, sun burns, and bug bites. Here’s what makes this product work.
Allantoin is an effective anti-irritant that soothes and hydrates your skin; and an over the counter ingredient called Dimethicone which helps repair the skin’s barrier. Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract is a botanical that has anti-irritant, soothing and antioxidant properties, and it’s also the scent you notice with this step. Glycerin, Soybean, Sunflower Seed Oil, Honey Extract, and Lavender Oil. Linoleic Acid is an unsaturated fatty acid that helps to restore the lipid barrier and may help reduce oil production by sebaceous glands. Tetrapeptide is a short chain of amino acids that make up proteins to reduce the inflammatory cascade and puffiness. Titanium Dioxide is used to remove toxic impurities and is a common ingredient in sunscreen and makeup products. Vitamin E and water.
Moisture Replenishing Cream – Step 3:
The Replenishing Cream is great for hydrating any surface dryness you may have. This is a great product to have on hand if your kid’s cheeks are chapped. It’s also great as a night cream if you tend to have oily skin. So, what’s in it?
Water, Dimethicone, and Glycerin. Echium Seed Oil is a plant source of omegas 3, 6, and 9 that rejuvenates and revitalizes the skin. Olive oil contains essential fatty acids that your dry skin needs, including oleic, palmitic, and linoleic acids. It also provides antioxidant benefits. Grape Seed Oil, another antioxidant. Dimethicone and Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract. Carnitine which is a naturally occurring amino acid that delivers antioxidant properties.
Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 – Step 4:
I love this sunscreen – I use it for my whole family. It’s lightweight and it doesn’t have any fragrance dyes or alcohol in it. And, my kids don’t fight me when I put it on their face. It’s 100% mineral based and helps reduce redness, irritation, peeling, and dryness.
Titanium Dioxide. Zinc Oxide is a physical blocking sunscreen that meets the guidelines established by the FDA for a UVA and UVB sunscreen ingredient. This mineral is highly refined to remove toxic impurities and is used for thickening, whitening and lubricating agent in cosmetics as well as a sunscreen ingredient. Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract (Green Tea) which is an ancient antioxidant that fights the aging action of free radicals on the skin. Dimethicone and Glycerin. Licorice Root Extract that has anti-inflammatory properties. Panthenol, a pro-vitamin B derivative that is an excellent moisturizing ingredient for the skin and hair. Hyaluronic Acid is a hydrating agent which holds up to 1,000 times it’s weight in moisture creating a plumping effect on the skin. Vitamin E and Water.
Let’s recap for those whose heads are spinning, like mine. The Soothe line is loaded with antioxidants and Vitamin E to protect your skin from free radicals, which can damage your skin. The products also contain healthy fats to build healthy cell membranes to repair your skin. Add in some amino acid to heal your skin and some plant extracts to calm your skin.
