What the heck are exogenous ketones? I have a feeling you are going to hear ketones, ketosis, keto, ketogenic a lot this year. Have you heard of the Atkins Diet or a Paleo Diet? Yeah they’ve been around for ever! So has the ketogenic diet, it’s actually what the Atkins and Paleo have been adapted after. The state of ketosis is very hard to reach. Being in a ketosis state means you are burning your own fat source for energy. In your everyday diet that we are all accustomed to and what we’ve been taught, was to eat carbs for energy. The downside of this is that when we burn carbs, it turns into glucose. If we don’t use up the glucose energy or we eat too much it get’s stores the excess as fat.
Ketosis on the other hand is opposite everything we were taught over the years. High fat (GASP!), a moderate amount of protein, and very little carbs, 5%. I know, I’m still stuck on the high fat part as well. Many of us were raised on a low-fat diet, but if you look at what’s in your low-fat products you will see the insane amount of sugar in that item.
Paleo is more of what they call a “caveman diet.” Think about what cavemen ate, nothing was processed. They hunted for their food or they grew it; they ate off the land. The focus of this diet is low-fat, low-carb. Atkins, you can eat pretty much what you want as long as it’s low in carbohydrates.

When I started on my health journey, I didn’t do it to lose weight; I’m doing it to have energy, be in a better mood, and stop craving junk. For me I didn’t start losing weight until I actually started to cut out my carbs. I know a lot of people who were overweight that did nothing but had their keto drinks and lost a lot of weight.
