Stress. We all experience from time to time. Between work, family, life, bills….adulting….it’s bound to happen. Adulting is hard!! We either notice the signs before it takes over our life or it hits us smack in the head when we least expect it. Stress can take its toll on your body. Maybe you are a stress eater or you don’t eat, maybe shopping is your thing, wine is my favorite vice. Let’s be better about our stress. Let’s deal with it in a way where we can come out smiling on the other side. There are many ways we can manage our stress. Here are a few of my favorite ways:
Getting out and going for a run, taking an intense class like kick boxing or Zumba, or just lifting weights does amazing things for your endorphins. Releasing those endorphins to pump up your brain’s feel good vibes is a great way to relieve some of the stress you are experiencing.
Have you ever sang that song, “Shake, shake, shake your sillies out” to your kids when they are upset, or stressed out? As adults, sometimes we need to do this. Be like Meredith and Christina on Grey’s, crank up some music and just dance it out. It’s fun and it helps. Lot’s of dance parties at my house.
When we don’t get enough sleep during the week we can become cranky! We are short with everyone because our patience decided to take a vacation. Our family annoys us, friends annoy us, people in general annoy us.
Too much on your mind? Read a book before bed. Shut off the screens. Listen to relaxing music. Create a story in your mind. Just get some sleep!! No one looks good if they are tired. Blotchy skin, dark circles – not pretty.
Call your peeps!! Catch a movie, grab coffee, go dancing! Have a dinner party!! Join a class together. Don’t drop your friends. You need each other. Get a sitter if you have too. Boot camp and our monthly girl’s night are my go to.
PUT DOWN THE FRENCH FRIES AND MILKSHAKE!! You will regret it later. Trust me! The bloat will set in, your pants won’t fit right, and you will feel blah. Don’t feel blah. Find healthy options. Almonds with mini dark chocolate chips. Apples and peanut butter. Eating healthy and getting into that habit will significantly cut your stress.
My son Joey, when he gets stressed out we tell him to smell the flowers and blow out the candles. Stop, close your eyes and just breathe. Meditate at least 10 minutes. Not sure how to meditate, try yoga. Lot’s of stretching and breathing.
Life to too short to be stressed out all the time, been there done that. If you can’t get it under control I would strongly suggest meeting with someone. Maybe there is a deeper issue that you aren’t seeing.
